Dark & Lovely

Manufacturer: SoftSheen-Carson (L'Oréal)

Parent Company: L'Oréal USA

One of the most widely used relaxer brands in the US, marketed heavily to Black women. Dark & Lovely products have been central to the litigation. L'Oréal acquired SoftSheen-Carson in 1998.

Optimum Care

Manufacturer: SoftSheen-Carson (L'Oréal)

Parent Company: L'Oréal USA

Another L'Oréal/SoftSheen-Carson brand. Marketed as a gentler relaxer option, particularly for damaged hair.

Just for Me

Manufacturer: Namaste Laboratories

Parent Company: Namaste Laboratories LLC

Marketed specifically for children — 'Just for Me' was designed for girls as young as 5 years old. This is particularly significant because early childhood use means potentially decades of chemical exposure beginning before puberty.

ORS Olive Oil

Manufacturer: Dabur International

Parent Company: Dabur Consumer Care

The ORS (Organic Root Stimulator) brand has been marketed as containing natural olive oil, which plaintiffs allege obscured the presence of harmful synthetic chemicals.

Motions

Manufacturer: Unilever

Parent Company: Unilever PLC

Motions was a long-running relaxer line owned by Alberto-Culver and then Unilever. Marketed to professional salons and consumers.

TCB Naturals

Manufacturer: Alberto-Culver / Unilever

Parent Company: Unilever PLC

TCB (The Conditioner and Body) was a classic relaxer brand sold for decades in the United States.

African Pride

Manufacturer: Godrej Consumer Products

Parent Company: Godrej Group

African Pride markets itself as a brand that celebrates African heritage while selling chemical relaxers. The cultural marketing has been cited as a reason why many Black women trusted these products.

Soft & Beautiful

Manufacturer: Strength of Nature

Parent Company: Strength of Nature Global

Strength of Nature is one of the largest manufacturers of ethnic hair care products. Soft & Beautiful is one of their flagship relaxer lines.

Elasta QP

Manufacturer: Strength of Nature

Parent Company: Strength of Nature Global

Another Strength of Nature brand widely used by Black women for decades.

Revlon Realistic

Manufacturer: Revlon

Parent Company: Revlon Inc.

Revlon's Realistic line was a major relaxer brand. Revlon has been named as a defendant in the MDL litigation.
